Frequently Asked Questions
How do I measure my yard for a custom shade sail?
Measure the distance between fixed anchor points (walls, posts, trees) and note heights at each point. Leave 0.5–1 ft extra at each corner to allow for turnbuckles, rope or hardware. Send a simple sketch and three-dimensional notes to the vendor so they can confirm whether a triangle or rectangle is the best shape.
Will the sail hold up in wind and rain?
Breathable HDPE fabrics (like the 185 GSM listed here) are designed to let wind and water pass through, reducing wind load and pooling. Reinforced edges, proper tension, and stainless anchors are essential — without those, even durable fabric can fail at the corners. If you expect very high winds, consider removing the sail for storms or specifying heavier-duty hardware and installation.
Do these sails block UV and heat?
Yes — these sails are listed to block up to 95% of harmful UV. Because HDPE is breathable, it reduces radiant heat buildup beneath the sail while still providing substantial sun protection. Darker colors may reduce glare but can feel warmer to the touch; lighter colors reflect more heat.
